Advice to a younger friend - Wisdom on What Matters Most

As I become a bit older and wiser, I take the opportunity to review my successes and failures, the opportunities that have come my way, and most importantly, how I want to proceed in the next phase of my life. Looking back over my life, I sometimes wish I had an older, wiser person to help me see what really matters in life, to instill clarity, a sense of calm, focus and self-assuredness as I ventured through this complex world of ours. So let me take a moment for sharing some insight that I've discovered into what matters most.

You are your first priority. Stress management, exercise, nutrition and strong relationships are key to healthy living. Surround yourself with people that love you and support your growth. Be with people that embody attributes and values you cherish.

Try to eradicate over-obligating yourself and question every time you say 'yes' and 'I should.' You'll be surprised and delighted how much time and energy you now have to do things that are really important to you.

Love and accept yourself. Nothing is more powerful than self-acceptance, love, forgiveness and respecting yourself. It provides healthy, kind, and supportive empowerment.

Spend time in nature. This is one of the more profound ways to de-stress, clear your mind of clutter and experience feelings of well-being, calm and awe.

Practice mindfulness and self awareness. Slowing down, being present, and becoming familiar with your moods, motivations and deepest desires are critical if you want to live a meaningful, abundant and productive life.

Take responsibility for your life. You are responsible for your own life and blaming outside circumstances for what happens in your life will keep you stuck, frustrated and angry.

Don't worry what other people think of you. The most important approval you need is from yourself and no one else.

Daily gratitude practice. Experience the feeling of gratitude and take 5 minutes to write down a quick list of everything you are grateful for!

Illusion of Truth Effect

Any statement we read, see, or speak regularly is seen as more valid than one we're exposed to only occasionally. A study from UC Santa Barbara clearly shows that a weak message repeated twice becomes more valid than a stront message heard only once. If we're not fully aware and conscious of what we're exposing ourselves to, consistency of that message will win over truth every time.

What repetitive and possibly damaging words are you saying to yourself or to the people you love unconsciously?

1. Start Noticing the words you are using automatically and become aware of how they affect you and others. Begin to start a new habit by changing or deleting words that don't serve you.

2. No Self Criticism or Name Calling. Be kind and offer yourself empathy and compassion, you're doing your very best at every moment.

3. No Jokes or Self Deprecating remarks about anything in your life. Words have power and momentum, give yourself a break and be kind and loving towards yourself.

4. Gossiping and Speaking Poorly about others only causes your own energy to resonate with the power of the words you're using.

5. Keep Your Vibration High by using positive words in everything you do and say. If something is not to your liking, you can say that you prefer something else. This way that negative energy of saying you don't like something doesn't flow through your body.

6. Use Extra Positive Words. Instead of saying you had a good time, how about you had a wonderful or fantastic time. It really feels different doesn't it?

7 Spending Less Time With Negative People. Maybe find more positive friends who will uplift you instead of bringing your energy down with their negative words and actions.

8. Create New Words that Become Habits by placing notes with positive words or affirmations that are new to you and than can become your new habit words.

If you do these new practices on a daily basis, feel the differene in you body and how you feel about you life. creating a momentum around all that surrounds you.

"Just as the water reflects the stars and the moon the body reflects the mind and soul"
